We are so blessed to live in a community where creativity flourishes. There are artists who dabble in almost every medium we could think of! Kris Batchelder pushes boundaries as she has decided to paint...with paper! From far away every one of Kris' whimsical pieces of art looks like a thoughtful painting, but upon further inspection you'll notice she has built her masterpieces using nothing but paper! These collages crafted in every color of the rainbow are truly a delight. We have her work hanging in the show for the next few weeks and we encourage you to come in to take in the beauty firsthand. Her art has gotten quite the response from our customers and we wanted to take a minute to learn more about this creative soul.
Where did you learn how to paint/collage? Are you completely self-taught? Did you go to school?
I am a self-created artist. After becoming certified as an Integrative Life Coach, I decided it was time to step into and "own" my personal creative talent that I had always projected onto others, via the Breakthrough Shadow Coaching process in which I am trained. What has resulted are the various works you see displayed, into which I have woven my passion for transformation, travel and the outdoors in hopes to inspire people to step into their power and get after their dreams."
Have you been painting your entire life or is this a recent profession? Do you devote all your time to your craft or do you have another occupation/hobby/craft as well?
I have been practicing paper collage now for about one and a half years, which has also translated into a greeting card business. Additionally, I serve as a fashion stylist, specializing in men’s custom clothing through J.Hilburn, and am certified as an Integrative Life Coach.
What inspires your work?
My passion for transformation, travel and the outdoors largely inspires my art.
What do you want your audience to feel when they interact with your paintings?
Inspiration! Through my art, I hope to inspire people to go after their dreams and live their most colorful and vibrant life possible, as well as promote appreciation and respect for nature and one another through an understanding of our common aspirations.
What do you feel is the biggest challenge an artist faces? The biggest reward?
I can only speak for myself but, in addition to common time and cost considerations, I would say the vulnerability of “putting myself out there” stirs up some major fears.
What is your favorite part of living or working in Boulder, Colorado?
Being close to my family who still lives here, the nature and open space I get to experience almost every day, and the amenities and schooling that are available to my son.
Why did you decide to work with Adorned by Nomad?
From the moment I happened upon Adorned I’ve been absolutely smitten. More than merely a Downtown Boulder establishment, they are a small business supporting small business, community providing community, and vortex of the kindness and support we need more of in our world ☮️... and I am beyond honored they invited me to totally take over their walls to display my art.
Kris Batchelder's work is on display and for sale until the middle of August! Do not delay as each piece is truly one-of-a-kind!
